Lipitor (atorvastatin) and Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (“statins”) used to treat elevated total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, and to elevate HDL cholesterol. Lipitor can cause serious side effects. Side effects may occur with Lipitor, and muscle aches developed in up to 5.6 percent of people taking the drug. In most cases, muscle aches occur without more serious symptoms; however, if you also develop a fever or illness, call your healthcare provider right away.
